Software Engineer (Graph Team)

We are looking for outstanding software engineer for our graph team. The mission of the team is to provide the best and richest music graph data there is, enabling a superior experience for all Spotify users. The team builds and maintains algorithms and infrastructure for interpreting, integrating, and inferencing music data consisting of millions of entities.

The foundation of the Spotify user experience is the music and the data around it. Not only about the music itself, but also data around user behavior, context, situation and location. Everyday we analyze terabytes of data in order to enrich our catalogue and find new entities and relationships, learn about artist trends, and much more. Improving how we represent and reason about this data is the main goal for the team.

The graph team is located in Stockholm, Sweden.

Responsibilities

  • Work with graph representation and algorithms, in a big data environment

  • Interface with other teams to incorporate their innovations and vice versa

  • Design and test software and handle code reviews

  • Handle system deployment

Requirements

You have a passion for building high quality software, both in terms of performance and style, and also have the intellectual curiosity and the ability to understand and solve not always well-defined problems, all to understand how systems can help to guide our business needs.

Furthermore we’re looking for someone who:

  • Has an interest in machine learning and statistical methods. Experience is a plus

  • Have experience with data modeling and how to perform efficient database operations

  • Is comfortable with processing and analyzing big data sets, experience with Apache Hadoop, Cassandra, or ElasticSearch is a plus

  • Expert in at least one programming language, preferably Python or Java

  • Have 3+ years software engineering experience, including *nix systems

  • BSc, MSc or higher in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
